Buying Spa Covers

A spa or hot tub is a significant investment. To protect your investment it is essential to maintain the condition of your hot tub. One important component that can help you do this is a spa cover and there are a number of different types you can buy.

By spanning the opening of the tub, spa covers provide a barrier against debris that can fall into the water and be cycled through the system, damaging both the filter and operating parts. Debris can include sticks, dust, leaves and dirt. Keeping the water dirt-free will also help control any bacteria that tries to cultivate inside the warmth of the tub.

Not only can a spa cover protect the system they can actually save lives by ensuring that children or pets can’t climb into the tub. Covers that provide this protection are made from sturdy steel frames that can hold the weight of an adult. However, they also be more expensive than other covers.

One type of hot tub cover is the insulated variety. These covers have insulation which keeps the water warm when the tub is not in use. This means that the spa requires less energy to heat up the water and can be extremely practical in the cold of winter.

Rolling spa covers are probably the most easiest to use. Made from foam, they simply roll up and are placed to one side when you are using the tub. When it comes time to turn off the tub it is a simple matter of rolling the cover back out. The main disadvantage of covers like this is that they are not strong enough to provide protection for children or pets, and can be damaged during high winds.

Aluminum spa covers are some of the strongest that you can buy. They are made to support large amounts of weight like the snow or ice that can accumulated during winter. As they are made from metal they won’t tear during windy conditions and are resistant to damage.

Tonneau covers are basically tarps that are fit over the tub and are tied down with special attachments. Because they are fabric based they can’t hold much weight and can be torn if you are not careful when using them. However, they can be inexpensive when compared to the other types of covers.

You can buy a spa cover from a wide range of places but the most common are from hot tub retailers or from trusted websites on the internet. Choosing a cover is a simple task but make sure you know the size of your tub and which cover you want to buy before you start looking.
